Handsome Mid Century Scandinavian Modern pair of cabinets by Rud Thygesen & Johnny Sorensen for Hansen & Guldborg (a.k.a. HG,). These cabinets are comprised of rosewood with square steel tube legs, a pair. They also have a hanging mechanism on the back of each cabinet for hanging on a wall unit. The legs may have been added after the fact by someone or they could have been an original option. We have been unable to determine this for sure. The cabinets designer and maker have been attributed based upon the Danish makers mark inside the drawers; archived research including online sources; vintage documentation and catalogs; designer literature; and other materials. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, We have repaired all nicks & dings as feasible. Each cabinet has some age-related marks but shows beautifully. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1960’s.

They are wonderful in their simplicity!!
Thygesen and Sorensen were instrumental in contributing to the Golden Age of Danish Design in the 1950’s and 1960’s. When they designed a Birthday gift for Danish King Frederick IX it launched a new era in their lives. They resisted general trends and stuck to their desires to be independent designers and their exclusive furnishings and collections attracted much attention. A highlight of their career together was their design in the 1980s for Café Victor, a hip hangout in downtown Copenhagen. In addition, the two furniture designers exhibited annually at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition. However, after almost thirty years of collaboration, in 1995 they decided to end a successful partnership to pursue individual careers.
Hansen & Guldborg (also known as H.G.) is a Danish furniture manufacturer of Mid-Century Modern and Scandinavian design.
