A beautifully executed Meiji period Japanese cloisonne enamel plate featuring a vivid sky blue central medallion framed by an elaborate border of intricate wire work. The center is decorated with finely rendered chrysanthemum blossoms and delicate white floral sprays, all outlined in exceptionally thin and precise gilt wires that demonstrate the highest level of enamel craftsmanship.
Surrounding the medallion is a wide border filled with an extraordinary swirling foliate design created through countless tightly laid wires, each curve and spiral forming a continuous movement across the surface. Subtle gray flower heads appear throughout the field, adding depth and variation without interrupting the rhythm of the overall pattern.
Encircling the central motif are black bats, visible within the medallion area. The bat is a traditional symbol of good fortune and long life in East Asian art, and its inclusion enriches the cultural meaning of the plate while enhancing the visual balance of the composition.
The reverse is decorated with a soft blue ground patterned with spiraling gilt wires, demonstrating the same level of attention and refinement as the front. The workmanship throughout is exceptionally fine with superb control of wire placement and clean firing of the enamel surfaces.
A very attractive and high quality example of Meiji period Japanese cloisonne enamel.
