A refined pair of Meiji period Japanese cloisonne enamel cylinders decorated with detailed scenes of birds among spring flowers on rich turquoise grounds. Each piece is worked in very fine gilt wire with naturalistic rendering of geese, sparrows, butterflies, and seasonal botanicals including peonies, lilies, and iris.
The upper and lower borders are finished with intricate polychrome floral cartouches that frame the central panels and elevate the overall design. The enamel surfaces show excellent color and clarity, and the pair remains in very good condition for age with only minor expected surface wear.
A beautifully balanced and highly decorative Meiji pair that reflects the precision and artistry of late nineteenth century Japanese enamel work. Suitable for collectors of Japanese art and a strong decorative statement in any interior.
