A beautifully preserved antique brass ember pot, complete with fire-lighting wand tipped with pumice.
Before matches were common, households used small ember pots like this one to carry a live coal from the fireplace to light pipes, candles, early stoves, or oil lamps in other rooms. The pumice stone at the end of the wand cradled a glowing ember without burning, while the lid’s narrow opening allowed the wand to rest inside the pot with just enough oxygen to keep the ember alive.
This pot features:
• Hand-spun brass body on three ball feet
• Hinged carrying handle for safe transport
• Fitted brass lid with slot for the ember wand
• Long brass rod with a natural pumice head, used to capture and hold the ember
Warm, polished patina throughout. Displays beautifully fireside, on a hearth, or styled on a rustic mantel. A functional piece of 19th-century household innovation—perfect for collectors of early lighting, hearth tools, or brassware.
Like made in France or England circa 1890.
