Danish gilded sterling silver and enamel Christmas fork and spoon set from Anton Michelsen of Copenhagen, Denmark.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Michelsen, a well known silversmith in Denmark, specialized and refined the art of enamelwork and starting in 1910 began producing the well-known annual Christmas spoons. Swedish jewelry designer Theresia Hvorslev is the artist behind the 1965 motif: the Christmas tree. The design of the handle has also been incorporated into the motif as it follows the outline of the tree. Small gilded dots also contribute by suggesting small Christmas lights. The pieces come from the collection and estate in Dallas.
Very good vintage condition with very faint wear to the gilt surfaces. The fork was still in its sleeve when found, so these were likely never pulled out of the packaging to use.
Spoon: 6.5 in. L and weighing 1.6 oz / 45 grams. Marked on reverse: [A. Michelsen Sterling Danmark] / TH/ JUL / 1965.

Anton Michelsen (1809-1877) was a pioneering Danish silver and goldsmith, establishing his own company in 1841. Michelsen was appointed Court Goldsmith and Maker of Orders in 1848. For four generations, the Michelsen firm was a leading and influential dynasty of gold and silversmiths, designing many jewelry and silver commissions for the Danish Royal Family. The company issued their first commemorative Christmas spoon in 1910 and commissioned a noted Danish artist to design a new Christmas set every year.
