Striking Vernon Kilns' classic California pottery pitcher in the Homespun / Plaid / Organdie-pattern. Generously proportioned at 9"w x 12"h, it would be a wonderful addition to any collection of mid-century pottery for use on the tabletop, displayed on a shelf, or as a vase holding fresh or preserved flowers.
Vernon Kilns was originally founded as Poxon China in 1912, before being acquired and renamed in 1931. Under new leadership, it became one of the “Big Five” California potteries. This pitcher isn’t just a decorative accent — it is a tangible piece of American pottery history. It connects to the legacy of California’s mid-century ceramic boom, embodying the shift from mass-produced dishware to expressive, artful homeware that defined American kitchens from the 1940s–1950s.
So beloved is this pattern, set designers utilize it to bring a little bit of "California sunshine" to their cinematic productions. In "Titanic", Homespun's sister pattern in warm brown tones (Organdie) is the dinnerware of choice used by Rose to serve tea to her elderly grandmother, in "Northern Exposure", Homespun is the china set lovingly set on Maggie's table.
In addition to this awesome pitcher, we are offering 2 sets of matching Vernonware dinnerware on Chairish. Scroll through the Chez Vous Antiques storefront or just enter "1940s Vernon Kilns" in the Chairish search bar.
