Artist signed on front, lower left. On reverse, in the artist’s hand, is written:
• Acrylic
• Sophie Porter, 2520 Hyde Street, San Francisco
Title on reverse:
• ‘Plant and Fruit in Bowl.’
In original frame.

Ms. Porter, San Francisco advertising art director and painter, died age 91 in Greenbrae, Marin Co, CA.

Sophie was a native of Macomb, IL and a graduate of both the University of California, Los Angeles, and the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco. Before becoming a freelance artist, Sophie worked for billboard company Foster & Kleiser.

She illustrated advertising campaigns for Kikkoman Soy Sauce, Ortho and various other products; she also contributed drawings to Sunset magazine.

She was a founding member of the San Francisco Art Directors and Illustrators Club. A memorial service was held at the San Francisco Woman Artists Gallery, 370 Hayes Street.
