Mourlot Fréres is a famous French lithographic print studio founded in Paris in 1852 by François Mourlot and later run by his descendants, most notably by Fernand Mourlot in the mid to late 20th Century. The atelier became world-renowned for producing high quality fine art lithographs for some of the most important modern artists, including Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Miró, Braque, and Léger. These prints were made using authentic fine art lithographic techniques, typically with direct involvement from the artist, and are considered artworks in their own, not just reproductions.

Jules Pascin (1885–1930), born Julius Mordecai Pincas in Vidin, Bulgaria, was one of the most distinctive figures of the early 20th-century international avant-garde. Raised in a Jewish family and educated in Vienna and Munich. He began his career as an illustrator for satirical journals, developing the fluent, nervous style that would remain his hallmark. In 1905 he settled in Paris and quickly became associated with the circle of artists later known as the École de Paris. Montparnasse’s cosmopolitan milieu, rich with émigré painters, writers, and performers, suited Pascin’s temperament and fueled his output. His work from this period blends the elegance of French modernism with the psychological intimacy of German drawing traditions. Whether depicting dancers, street scenes, or intimate interiors, he rendered his subjects with an empathy that felt both immediate and disarmingly frank. During World War I, Pascin moved to the United States, living in New York and the American South. His American period broadened his thematic and geographic range; he captured bar and café life, carnivals, and portraits of African American and Creole communities with the same gentle observational character that defined his Paris work. After the war, he returned to France, where his studio became a gathering place for artists, writers, and models.

Pascin’s art is best known for its spontaneity: thin washes of color, trembling contours, and compositions that appear effortless while revealing deep human vulnerability. His drawings—often of female models—balance sensuality with tenderness, inviting viewers into private, unguarded moments.
