In 1896, Alberto Fornari opened his business in Rome's Campo de' Fiori, earning the nickname "massiccio" (massive) for the "massive silver" objects he sold. Thus began the history of Rome's silversmiths. In 1905, Alberto decided to open his first shop at Via della Scrofa 49. Business prospered, and the now-famous shop moved to Via del Gambero 27, at the corner of Via Frattina. Within a few years, the Fornaris were producing 30,000 kg of silverware and transformed the shop into a company specializing in gift items and home and kitchen furnishings. See less
