This vintage Brazilian wall plate features an inset mosaic of natural Morpho butterfly wings arranged beneath glass within a silver-toned metal frame. Produced mid-century for the South American export market, these pieces emphasized the iridescence of Morpho species through layered wing panels forming radiating geometric patterns.
The reverse includes a built-in hanging element, allowing the plate to function as either a display dish or mounted wall piece. Measuring 9.75 inches in diameter, it reflects the period’s interest in natural-history materials adapted into functional and decorative forms. The metal backing is consistent with Brazilian souvenir and artisan production of the 1950s–1970s.
