Hand-crafted … Read more This charming mid-century German Santa Claus figure is a beautifully preserved example of European holiday craftsmanship from the 1950s. Hand-crafted with a detailed composition (clay) face, painted blue eyes, rosy cheeks, and a real fur beard, this Santa has the expressive look found only in German putz and Erzgebirge holiday figures. Santa wears a classic red flocked wool-blend coat with white trim and stands on a textured snow-like base. Attached to him is a wonderfully made woven wood basket, a style closely associated with postwar German workshops. He carries a small wreath-style greenery bundle for an extra festive touch. A perfect holiday accent piece for bookshelves, mantels, hutches, and vintage Christmas collections. Pieces with both the woven sled and the original clothing are increasingly hard to find. Measures approximately 5.75” tall, 2.75” wide and 3” deep. Light, age-appropriate wear to the flocked suit and base. Minor paint loss on the face and boots consistent with age. Overall excellent vintage condition for a 70-year-old handcrafted piece. A lovely addition to any vintage holiday décor, German Christmas collection, or Santa vignette.
