Ink and wash on paper, realized in 1850s. A striking equestrian composition by Sébastien Prichard, depicting a rider in traditional Oriental attire mounted on a spirited white horse. The figure, dressed in a richly detailed red and blue costume with a matching turban, is portrayed in side profile with remarkable poise and dignity. The horse, captured mid-step, exudes energy and elegance, with Prichard’s skilled use of ink and wash emphasizing both its strength and grace. This drawing belongs to Prichard’s series of Orientalist equestrian studies, combining ethnographic interest with the 19th-century European fascination for exotic themes. Works of this nature not only highlight Prichard’s mastery of movement and anatomy but also stand as rare examples of Orientalist works executed in wash, a medium that enhances their immediacy and vitality. Very good overall condition, with some expected age-related toning, foxing, and minor edge wear consistent with age. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
