Watercolor and ink on paper, hand signed upper right and dated 29 December 1856. A striking composition depicting an African rider mounted on a white horse, holding a spear and dressed in a simple striped loincloth. The precise rendering of anatomy and movement, combined with the expressive treatment of the horse, highlights Prichard’s skill. Active in the mid-19th century, he is recognized for his ethnographic studies and exotic scenes. A rare and vibrant work, offering a valuable testimony to the 19th-century Romantic vision of Africa. Good overall condition, with minor wear and light foxing to the margins consistent with age. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
