A modern, quietly luxurious interpretation of classic Louis XIII lines, these chairs blend French coastal softness with a refined contemporary sensibility. Sourced in Provence, this stately set of eight high-back dining chairs dates to the late 18th to early 19th century. Crafted from solid walnut with traditional turned legs and cross-stretchers, the frames carry a warm, gently polished patina that has developed over generations. The tall, subtly arched backs lend a strong architectural presence, balanced by generous seats and the robust block-and-baluster bases emblematic of the period. Each frame has been structurally revised for stability while preserving the original character, joinery, and quiet authenticity of the antique wood. The chairs are newly upholstered in a durable, linen-textured performance fabric with natural and washed dark blue vertical stripes. The woven textile has a soft hand and a one-inch repeat that allows the stripes to fall in a clean, tailored rhythm. The upholstery is meticulously executed: each stripe is aligned with precision to elongate the silhouette, while a custom welt-band trim - cut from the fabric’s contrasting stripe - traces the curved crest and sides, giving the backs a crisp architectural outline. The back legs are fully wrapped and finished with a matching welt-band cuff at the base, taken from the darker stripe to anchor the form and highlight the level of craftsmanship. Every hem and corner is shaped with hand-finished accuracy, allowing the fabric to drape smoothly over the sculptural walnut bases. The seats are comfortably contoured and balanced, offering a contemporary softness that complements the quiet richness of the antique wood. Comfortable and beautifully refined, the set pairs its period authenticity with a tailored modern ease - suited as naturally to classic European settings as to softer, coastal-inspired interiors.
