This scepter is divided into 5 distinct sections which between which appears a sculpted representation of the fetishes in use within the group. it has an oiled brown patina. The Songye came from the Shaba region of the DRC and settled between the Lualaba River and the Sankuru in the middle of the Savannah and the forests. The Scepter is an emblem of divinatory and socio-political objectives. The Scepter held an occult power known only to the Songye Chieftain. it is carved from sapele timbe rand is used for it's exquisite grain. I found this Chieftain stick from a collector when I visited Boise Idaho. See less
