The top was recently refinished, bringing out the depth and character of the wood while preserving the piece’s antique integrity.
At some point early on, this chest was re-veneered in oyster burl with highly skilled craftsmanship—note the thoughtful matching on the top and sides that creates a cohesive and luxurious appearance. The original bun feet were replaced with classic bracket-style feet in keeping with the period. Pulls are heavy cast brass, high quality, but not original. The back has two strips of white velcro that can be removed. With its warm patina, sculptural veneer, and timeless proportions, this piece adds instant character to a bedroom, entryway, or living space.
