Liberty & Co. Thebes stool. Designed by Leonard Wyburd (1865-1958)
There is evidence of it once having had Liberty & Co label to underside (nails holes where the ivory plaque was once attached).
Manufactured circa 1880s whilst Wyburd was head of the furniture and decoration studio at Libertys of London.
As the stool’s name implies, the design of these tripod stools was modelled on ancient Egyptian typologies. The design was the basis of similar stools presented later by both Josef Frank and Adolf Loos (as seen at the Möbelmuseum, Vienna). I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
from
misattribution
