Circa Mid 19th Century - … Read more This is a Very Beautiful and Quite Rare Antique American Coin Silver Wine Bottle Coaster. Circa Mid 19th Century - 1850s to 1860s It is Completely Hand Made with Classic Hand Chased Floral & Rococo Decorated Features. The Base is Made Out of Ebony Wood with a Glossy lacquer Finish the Center Being Set with a Lathe Turned Bone Disc. It is in Very Nice All Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. Only Minimal Age and Use Related We- No Damage - No Repairs. It is Lightly Tarnished. The Early American Silver Makers adopted the Coin Silver Standard up until around the mid 1860s at which point in time they started to adopt the Sterling Silver Standard. American Coin Silver has a 90% Silver Content, and Sterling Silver has a slightly higher 92.5% Silver Content. Pure Silver is 99.9% Pure - That is to say that it Contains No Other Alloy Metals. Some of Pieces of American Coin Silver items that were produced were marked "Coin" - but it should be Noted that many of the other pieces that were produced during that period were Made by Local Silversmiths and Typically Have No Silver or Other Markings. Once the Sterling Standard took hold the vast majority of the Silver Pieces that were produced by Numerous American Silver Companies were marked "Sterling".
