The main … Read more Murano blown glass sculpture depicting a small woman's handbag, entirely hand-crafted, a subject made by numerous Murano glassworks. The main body of the handbag is made of red glass, to which colloidal gold has been added, embellished with large murrine, while the twisted handles are made of clear glass. This unsigned object dates back to the second half of the 20th century. To create the murrine, glass rods of various shapes (star, round, flower, oval, etc.) and thicknesses are made from several layers of glass paste in different colors. These rods are then cut into small pieces, the murrine, which are then used to create vases entirely composed of murrine, or to be incorporated into the glass paste that will form the vase, enriching it with an additional decoration (as with our handbag). Sometimes they are used to create the handles of vases or are attached to the surface of the vase, like buttons, and not embedded in the glass.
