This finely executed lithograph by Auguste Raffet, one of the foremost French lithographers of the 19th century, presents a rare and evocative glimpse into the daily life of Kirghiz-Tatar communities. The composition depicts a solemn procession of children, guided to their village school, their distinctive traditional attire carefully rendered with Raffet’s masterful draughtsmanship.
