A beautifully rendered charcoal life-study drawing by American illustrator and fine artist Carl T. Pfeufer (1910-1980). Carl was an American comic artist, magazine illustrator, painter, and sculptor. He was an early contributor to American comics; one of the primary early artists of the Marvel superhero Sub-Mariner and the longtime artist of Western hero Tom Mix's comic books.
Drawn on heavyweight paper, the full-length female nude stands in a contrapposto pose, her form modeled with delicate gradations of charcoal that create lifelike volume and shadow.
A strong example of early 20th Century American academic drawing - ideal for collectors of figure studies, illustration history or WPA-era studio art.

There is aging to the paper, toning and gentle even yellowing to paper edges, scattered foxing spots (mainly in margins, not affecting the figure), minor handling creases or soft corners as it has never been framed, a few small pinpoint dark spots on edge, reverse shows natural age toning but no structural issues, image area remains crisp, stable and richly detailed. The drawing will present beautifully when framed. Please zoom in on all photos as they form a good part of the description. Drawing will be mailed flat for shipping. I am happy to answer any questions you may have prior to purchase or to send more photos if needed. less
