The lamp has a substantial weight and solid cast brass construction characteristic of early bouillotte-style lighting, giving it a quality and presence that sets it apart from later decorative examples. The adjustable dark green metal tôle shade is decorated with a hand-painted gold border and can be raised or lowered along the central shaft using the arrow-form adjustment arm and ring finial at the top — a traditional bouillotte feature originally designed to control light for card playing. The warm aged brass finish has developed a beautiful patina that complements the deep green shade nicely. Good antique condition consistent with age. The brass retains an attractive aged patina throughout. The green tôle shade shows expected wear and light surface age, including some fading to the gold decorative detailing. The interior of the shade appears to have been repainted at some point. Several of the candle-style socket covers show small chips or hairline cracks, as shown in photos. These are cosmetic and do not affect function. The lamp is fully functional and takes three candelabra-base bulbs. There is no in-line or base switch; the lamp is operated by the cord or wall switch.
