It has that classic serpentine front and curved back, with elegant cabriole legs, and a beautifully shaped marble top that instantly give it presence. The painted panels are the star of the piece — each one features raised, molded Chinoiserie scenes with rich colors and great detail, giving the cabinet a textured, almost lacquered look. The drawer fronts are also beautifully done, with carved lattice-like designs and hand-painted accents that wrap around the front. The gilding, painted flourishes, and crackled finish show the handiwork and age you see in true period European chinoiserie furniture. This is not a modern reproduction — the construction is wonderful, with a curved tongue-and-groove back, paneled wood interior, and hand-joined elements throughout. Inside, the cabinet features wood-paneled walls, a curved shelf, and three drawers, all of which point to early craftsmanship.
