Three-Tier Louis XVI Marble-Top Pedestal Table – Bronze-Mounted, Parquetry Shelves – Attributed to Henri Picard
This magnificent three-tier Louis XVI–style pedestal or end table is a richly crafted piece attributed to the celebrated Parisian bronzier Henri Picard, renowned for his exceptional gilded bronze work during the mid-19th century. Topped with a beautifully veined round marble slab in soft tones of green, cream, and slate, this table exudes refined neoclassical elegance and high-quality French craftsmanship.
The upper frieze features bronze rosettes, floral appliqués, and delicate gilt ornamentation, all characteristic of Picard’s precise casting and finely chased detailing. The four fluted supports are accented with gilt-bronze collars and crisp vertical channels, giving the table its stately architectural profile. Below the marble top, two additional circular tiers display parquetry surfaces, providing both functionality and decorative warmth.
Every element—the carved apron, stepped molding, parquetry shelves, and bronze mounts—reflects the classical harmony and sophisticated proportion associated with the Louis XVI aesthetic. This versatile piece works beautifully as an end table, plant stand, lamp table, or display pedestal, and lends an air of Parisian luxury to any interior.
Ideal for collectors of fine French antiques or designers seeking a piece with historical significance, this pedestal table bridges decorative art and functionality, making it a rare and distinguished addition to any refined living space.
History of Henri Picard
Henri Picard was one of the most important bronziers of the Second Empire era in Paris. Active between 1831 and 1864, his workshop at 6 rue Jarente specialized in high-quality gilt-bronze mounts, candelabra, and luxurious decorative objects. Picard supplied bronzes to the imperial household of Napoleon III and collaborated with top ébénistes such as Léon Klingelhoeffer and Charles-Guillaume Winckelsen.
Picard’s work is celebrated for its crisp chasing, rich mercury gilding, and refined neoclassical motifs. Today, pieces attributed to his workshop are highly sought after and preserved in major collections and museums worldwide.
