Italian mid–20th-century tray—modern in spirit yet clearly inspired by the 18th century. Made in Italy between the 1960s and 1970s by the historic company Alessi, a leader in stainless-steel tableware and kitchenware, the brand is inseparably tied to the history of Italian design. In this tray—two of which are available in our collection—Alessi successfully reinterprets and distills 18th-century Baroque style using a material that is virtually indestructible, even if not traditionally considered “precious”: stainless steel. The tray features characteristic scalloped edges with scrolls and shell-shaped handles. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
