Belgium / 1915 / 4 dinner chairs / oak and wicker / Art Nouveau / Art Deco
This elegant set of four Belgian dining chairs, dating to circa 1915, beautifully bridges the transition from late Art Nouveau to early Art Deco. Crafted in solid oak with hand-woven wicker seats, the chairs embody the refined geometry and subtle organicism associated with the circle of Henry van de Velde.
Each chair features a gently arched crest rail and a vertical slatted backrest, offering both structural clarity and a softened silhouette. The warm patina of the oak highlights the quality of the joinery, while the natural wicker provides textural contrast and lightweight comfort. Their proportions are harmonious and slightly architectural; hallmarks of early 20th-century Belgian design.
Remarkably well preserved for their age, the chairs retain an authentic character that complements both period interiors and contemporary minimalist spaces. Ideal as dining chairs, side chairs, or sculptural design objects.
A rare and timeless ensemble with strong design pedigree and exceptional craftsmanship.
