This striking handmade studio pottery vase is a true celebration of artisan craft, showcasing a mesmerizing, one-of-a-kind glaze that makes it instantly captivating from every angle.
The glaze is the star of this piece: an organic cascade of cool turquoise, soft celadon, mossy green, and earthy ochre flowing together in dramatic vertical swirls. This effect is achieved through a layered glazing process in which the potter applies multiple reactive glazes that interact in the kiln, creating unpredictable rivers of color and texture. As the heat rises, the minerals melt, blend, and separate in unique patterns, no two firings will ever produce the same result. The outcome is a surface that feels both fluid and geological, like a cross between marbled stone and flowing water.
Standing 5 inches high and measuring 4 inches wide and deep, it has a beautifully rounded silhouette—smooth, balanced, and made to be admired. Faintly signed “UWS 1971” on the underside, the vase carries the charm of early studio pottery: tactile, experimental, and deeply personal. Its compact size makes it perfect for displaying a small arrangement, a single stem, or simply enjoying as a sculptural accent on a shelf or desk. Good vintage condition with no chips or damage. Please review the photos for further condition assessment.
A wonderful addition to any handmade pottery collection—rich with character, artistry, and the timeless appeal of mid-century and 1970s ceramic craft.
