This is a Wave Lounge Chair and coordinating Ottoman, designed in the 1960s by Danny Ho Fong for TropiCal. The ottoman cleverly slides into the frame of the piece when not in use.
This is a substantial set, it has heft and some weight to it. It is extremely solid.
Fong was a talented Chinese-American Furniture Manufacturer who was based on the West Coast. After settling in California in the 1930s, Fong founded TropiCal, a leading producer of fine Rattan furniture.
During the 1960s Fong was considered one of the best contemporary designers of Rattan furniture..
This important design earned a place in the permanent collection of the New York Museum of Modern Art, and they are becoming increasingly more difficult to find in the vintage marketplace.
The chair measures 34 inches deep, 33.5 inches wide, and 37.75 inches high. It has a seat height of 16.25 inches.
