Although overtly religious, it does not simply express a set of religious ideas or values and is much more than a merely visual art to be looked at and appreciated.
The Pattachitra painting depicts the Hindu deity Ganesha, known as the remover of obstacles and the lord of new beginnings. This traditional art style originated in the 12th century in Odisha, India, and is known for its intricate detailing and use of natural pigments to tell stories from myths, epics and folklore on treated cloth scrolls
Ganesha here is shown in a dynamic, dancing, posture within a decorative border. The deity is depicted with four arms, holding traditional implements like a goad and a noose in his upper hands. His mouse, at the bottom left. The painting style emphasizes bold lines, vibrant colors, and symbolic motifs. Ganesha paintings are considered spiritually significant and are often used in homes and offices to bring good fortune and positive energy.
The second painting depicts a multi-armed Shiva in a moment of victory after slaying a demon depicting the Shiva Thandava, specifically the Rudra Tandava. The Shiva Tandava is the vigorous, divine cosmic dance performed by Lord Shiva. It is a powerful dance that symbolizes the rhythm of creation, preservation, and destruction. The Rudra Tandava is the form of the dance, often depicted in art like this painting, represents Shiva's role as the cosmic destroyer. The destruction symbolized is not necessarily an end, but a precursor to new creation. The dance is believed to eliminate negative energies and purify the mind, allowing devotees to synchronize their energy with the cosmic rhythm.
