It depicts a tropical river or marsh landscape at sunset. As such, it shares the elements of lush vegetation, prominent palm trees, water reflections and a vibrant sky that characterize paintings by the Florida Highwaymen. This was a group of 26 African American landscape artists who produced large quantities of scenic Florida paintings from the 1950s onwards, selling them out of the trunks of their parked cars along US Hwy 1.
