Born in Venice in 1906, Scarpa trained at the city's Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1926. He later taught architectural drawing while also working as a designer and interior designer.

The vase is crafted from thick glass, characterized by the typical Battuto technique, a refined grinding finish that gives the surface a striking textured effect similar to hammered silver, with a delicate honeycomb pattern. Developed in the 1940s, this technique gives the piece extraordinary elegance and a sculptural presence.

The slightly tapered body, a distinctive feature of the "Bagigio" model, gives it a harmonious and refined silhouette. Presented by Venini at the 21st Venice Biennale, the vase received widespread acclaim.
