Émile Gallé (Nancy 1846 - Nancy 1904) was a French glassmaker and decorator, born into a family of crystal merchants.
His artistic training began with his father, a glassmaker and ceramist, in the Saint-Clément factory.
At around the age of eighteen, he went to Germany to study mineralogy and botany.
At the end of the Franco-Prussian War, he decided to go to London for a while. He then traveled to Switzerland and Italy, visiting museums and admiring medieval glassware.
In 1873, he returned to Nancy and began creating artistic glass works representing forms of nature, both floral and animal. During this period, he became the most important representative of the Nancy school and the pioneer of the new art of glass, part of the modern style movement.
From 1874 to 1884, he produced transparent glass, also inspired by Arabic and Persian enamels. He presented his new processing and production techniques at the 1878 Universal Exhibition in Paris, where he won four gold medals.
In 1878, he took over the management of the family business, transforming it into an artistic glassworks. This piece has an attribution mark,
