Lithograph on wove paper. Signed and dated in the plate. Image dimension 24x32 cm. This rare lithograph by Auguste Raffet, one of the most celebrated lithographers of the 19th century, depicts a vivid ethnographic scene from his travels. The composition presents a group of Tatar children gathered in front of a rustic village house, seemingly attending a lesson or recitation under the guidance of an elder. The children, arranged in a disciplined line, evoke a strong sense of communal tradition and cultural continuity. Raffet, known for his remarkable talent in capturing both historical battles and ethnographic subjects, imbues this scene with a delicate balance of precision and atmosphere. The details of costume, architecture, and posture are meticulously rendered, offering both documentary value and aesthetic appeal. This sheet shows the expected age-related foxing, mostly concentrated in the margins, with the image itself remaining well-preserved. Crisp impressions such as this one are increasingly scarce on the market. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
