Lithograph realized by Raffet in 1846. Signed and dated in the plate. Image dimension 19x42 cm. A finely detailed lithograph by Auguste Raffet, depicting the bustling market of Lisbon. In the foreground, peasants, merchants, and animals animate the scene, with chickens, goats, and bundles scattered across the dusty ground. At the center rises a monumental arch, framing the background of tiled roofs and hills beyond. Figures on horseback and townsfolk in traditional attire enliven the composition, testifying to Raffet’s acute observational eye and his ability to capture both architectural and human presence with precision. Raffet, celebrated for his masterful lithographic technique and his travels across Europe and the Orient, imbues the work with both documentary value and artistic vitality. Published in 1843, this plate belongs to the series of views that established him as one of the foremost lithographers of his time. Good impression with light overall foxing, typical of the period. Wide margins preserved. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
