this work, characterized by a refined sacredness, depicts the archangel gabriel in the act of making the supreme announcement to the virgin, offering her the canonical white lilies, a symbol of purity and chastity. It is a splendid subject, crafted with stylistic refinement, likely commissioned for private use and therefore particularly pleasing and easy to place.
the angel takes the form of a young man with delicate features, his finger raised as if to emphasize his revelation, wrapped in a bright red drapery and a white robe, against a dark background that emphasizes the figure's movements and the gesture of his hand.
the work, characterized by a fluid, vaporous brushstroke and a subtle use of light, demonstrates a profound attention to iconography and compositional methods still common in tuscan painting during the late mannerist period, an extraordinarily fruitful artistic period that, especially between the two centuries, saw an impressive succession of leading artists.
in this case, although it is difficult to pinpoint a specific name, the stylistic features suggest an attribution to a master of the florentine school, active in the 17th century.
the composition is characterized by intense chromatic tones and a particularly lively interplay of chiaroscuro, emphasized by the deep red of the angel's robes and the glare that strikes the angel from the front.
good condition. Complete with a beautiful antique box frame. Made of painted wood with a faux marble finish.
