Superb naval writing desk bearing the prestigious signature of Maire, one of the finest cabinetmakers in Paris. Beautiful burl veneer. Rich brass decoration. Lock with a superb escutcheon (the key must have been a masterpiece). Two-tone leather interior with tooled decoration. Minimal signs of wear. 36 x 23 x 16 cm. At the time this case was made, Pierre-Dominique Maire was the most renowned cabinetmaker and refused to extend credit to Bonaparte upon his return from Egypt. This piece has an attribution mark,
