An outstanding Japanese openwork dish of gallery quality from the late Meiji period. The central medallion shows Benzaiten riding a dragon above stylised waves. Finely executed with piercing, gilding and inlaid mixed metals, the dish exemplifies the Komai school of Kyoto — armourers turned metal artists who transformed martial craft into refined decorative art.
