Of … Read more A refined miniature incense burner (koro) made by the Kotobuki-dō (寿伴) workshop, Kyoto, during the late Meiji period (c.1895–1910). Of flattened circular “teapot” form on three feet, the ivory-glazed body is delicately hand-painted with chrysanthemums, wisteria, and a blue songbird amid blossoms, heightened with fine gilt detail and geometric borders. The restrained palette and exquisite brushwork exemplify Kyoto’s mastery of miniature Satsuma ware.

The original domed lid has been professionally rejoined in two places; gentle rubbing to the gilding consistent with age. A perfectly balanced, luminous object for collectors or interior display.
