England, Derby factory, Bloor period c.1815. A decorative pair of porcelain figures known as the “Idyllic Musicians”. The gentleman plays flageolet and tabor; the lady originally held a triangle, its lower corner still visible on the apron. Both stand on ornate pierced rococo bases with strong gilding and richly coloured Bloor-period enamels in pink, purple and midnight blue with gilt starwork.
Originally issued c.1760 and revived under Robert Bloor as catalogue No. 311, these models exemplify the brighter palette and renewed refinement of the early 19th-century Derby workshop. The male figure is impressed “Bloor Derby”; the female marked “Derby” in red.
