The entire surface is covered in … Read more A masterfully hand-painted Satsuma bowl by the Hododa workshop, Yokohama, late Meiji period (c.1895–1910). The entire surface is covered in overlapping butterflies in polychrome and gilt enamel, each wing individually detailed. The interior includes a central gilt chrysanthemum, while the exterior continues the butterfly motif on a cream crackled ground.

A striking decorative piece with exceptional colour and precision typical of Hododa’s finest export work.
