Expressive hand-sculpted terracotta portrait signed with a tied monogram “zb” and marked “39d.” the work carries a strong personal character, typical of belina’s ceramic chamber sculptures, merging human warmth with a slightly surreal, almost folkloric realism.
artist: zdzisław belina (kraków, 1925–2015)
belina was a polish ceramicist and sculptor, educated at the academy of fine arts in kraków (1949–1955). He specialised in intimate ceramic portraiture and small sculptural forms. His works were exhibited internationally, including solo shows in moscow, london, and new york (1956–1959), and group exhibitions such as the young artist exhibition (kraków, 1956), “portrait–model” (1967), and the sculpture gallery’s small sculptural forms (1969).
