A rare Meiji-period Satsuma tea jar by the Tokyo Taizan workshop, dating to around 1890. Finely hand-painted in gold and vivid enamel, the surface depicts rakan monks among bamboo in raised moriage relief. The domed lid, originally with a finial, is decorated with the imperial mon, signifying noble patronage. The original inner cover is preserved.
The base bears the distinctive red-and-gold Tokyo Taizan cartouche, confirming its authenticity and provenance. The harmonious design, intricate detailing, and luminous gilding exemplify the artistry of late-Meiji Satsuma ware and its cross-cultural appeal during the Aesthetic movement.
This elegant Japanese jar offers historic depth, exceptional craftsmanship, and strong decorative presence for a curated interior.
