A delicately matched pair of signed Kyoto Satsuma vases, painted by Tagawa (田川) around 1900–1915. Exemplifying refined craftsmanship and subtle colour balance, they demonstrate the quiet luxury of Japan’s Meiji-Taishō decorative arts.
Each vase has an ovoid form with narrow neck and flared rim. The shoulders are encircled by a brocade-style band of enamelled lappets and scalework motifs in blue, green, and iron-red with gold accents. Below, cascading wisteria blossoms are painted in lilac and ivory enamel tones with lavish raised gilding. The gold detailing is minute and rhythmic, creating a luminous surface reminiscent of textile brocade.
