Materials: Fine woods—walnut, cherry, rosewood, and boxwood—with rich and expert inlay and veneer workmanship.
Aesthetic Details and Workmanship
Top: The most striking feature is the magnificent inlaid top. It features a sunburst or "herringbone" design in a single wood species that radiates from a central medallion.
Central Medallion: The inlaid oval is finely decorated with a floral motif in light and dark woods, framed by contrasting fillets.
Under-Top Panel: The front panel features a drawer and a sliding top with a pull.
Inlays: The entire structure is enriched with elegant light and dark fillets that outline the panels and drawers, a distinctive feature of Lombard cabinetmaking.
Legs: Tapered and truncated pyramid (square in cross-section that tapers toward the bottom), typical of the Louis XVI style. They are finished with brass sockets on the feet.
Hardware: Bronze handles (knobs) and lock escutcheon, consistent with the era.
Condition
Condition: Patina, with a beautiful shellac polish that highlights the wood grain. Natural signs of wear and tear are visible, attesting to its authenticity and age.
Functionality: The structure is solid and the drawer is functional. Its ability to function as a writing desk with a pull and compartments makes it a versatile piece.
