the design of the model dates from 1936 and can be attributed to giovanni gariboldi, who in the same year also presented various
objects and other animal figures in s. Cristoforo earthenware at the milan triennale (see la richard-ginori alla vi triennale, in
domus, june 1936, pp. 28-31, p. 28). The position of the animal suggests that gariboldi may have been inspired for this model by a
chinese object carved in jade (see o. Rucellai, the orient, ponti and gariboldi: some correspondences, in amici di doccia-
quaderni, vi 2012, pp. 78-91, p. 86, fig. 18). The horse, like the other models in the catalog of the ceramiche d’arte of the
manifattura di s. Cristoforo was available in multiple color variants. (see for example g. Cavagna di gualdana, giovanni gariboldi,
2010, pp. 89 and 113) this piece has an attribution mark,
