A spectacular 19th-century French or Italian majolica centerpiece, hand-painted with vivid colors and rich sculptural details.
Three charming putti (cherubs) stand gracefully, supporting the large circular top decorated with scrolling foliage, vines, and grapes — classic symbols of abundance and joy. Around their feet, lively green frogs and lush vegetation bring a whimsical touch to this exuberant composition.
Executed in glazed earthenware, this piece evokes the vibrant style of Bernard Palissy, Minton, and Royal Dux, blending naturalism and fantasy with remarkable craftsmanship.
Though unsigned, its execution speaks of the best ateliers of the 19th century.
The piece has been partially restored at the base and shows a visible crack on the top — yet it retains all its charm, color, and rarity.
Dimensions:
Height: 42 cm (16.5 in)
Top diameter: 35 cm (13.8 in)
Base: 28 × 24 cm (11 × 9.4 in)
Condition:
Restorations to the base and a crack on the top, consistent with age. Stable and visually impressive.
A stunning decorative centerpiece, perfect for collectors of 19th-century majolica and those who appreciate the exuberant charm of Palissy-style ceramics.
