This exceptional Japanese textile artwork was created in the late Meiji to early Taishō period (circa 1890–1920).
Executed in Yūzen Birodo, a refined technique combining hand-painted motifs on ribbed velvet, this large piece depicts two elegant bijin (beautiful woman) holding a traditional wagasa umbrella, surrounded by a softly rendered landscape.
This is a signed piece, bearing an artist’s seal in the lower left corner — an uncommon and highly sought-after detail among collectors.
Its muted palette, delicate linework, and natural patina give the tapestry a serene, poetic presence that works beautifully as a statement wall piece in both contemporary and traditional interiors.
