This remarkable oak chancel screen is a rare surviving element from the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris, one of the most iconic monuments of world heritage.
Dating from the late 19th century, it was created during the grand restoration led by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, the visionary architect who revived Gothic art across France.
The screen features an elegant openwork lattice structure framed by architectural uprights in solid oak. Its sober design and warm patina evoke both the austerity and beauty of medieval craftsmanship.
Removed during the post-2019 fire restoration works, it was preserved by a craftsman involved in the conservation project.
Subtle marks of smoke and heat still visible on the surface serve as moving traces of its past within the cathedral walls.
Design Use
Beyond its sacred origin, this unique piece can become a decorative architectural element or statement feature in various settings:
* As a room divider in a library, gallery, or chapel
* As a sculptural backdrop for religious or contemporary artworks
* As a collector’s centerpiece in a private home, hotel, or spiritual retreat
It stands as a bridge between history and contemporary interior design, carrying the soul of Notre-Dame de Paris into the present.
