Brutalist Wall Sculpture by Ars Munda This impressive wall relief, often referred to as the "Lovebirds," is a characteristic work by the Ars Munda Collective, a group of artists who were mainly active in the 1960s and 1970s (Mid-Century Modern period). Form and Style: The sculpture is an excellent example of Brutalism in decorative art. This is evident in the robust, heavily textured surfaces and the emphasis on texture.
The vertical, stylized representation shows two intertwined birds with long necks and outstretched wings. Due to its depth of 7 cm, the work casts a dramatic shadow, which enhances its sculptural quality. Material and Collective: Although the work has the appearance of heavy cast iron or bronze, it is made of synthetic resin. Ars Munda used this technique—creating a 'Multiplo' (an equivalent piece in a series, emphatically not a copy)—to make high-quality art more affordable and accessible to a wide audience.
Works of this kind were sometimes seen on the facades of houses in various parts of Western Europe. With a height of 81 cm, this is a monumental and decorative eye-catcher.
