Both of these companion pieces are also available on this website in our selection. Don’t be misled by the distinctly British decorative theme of these sculptural bottle openers, which depict classic English hat styles. In fact, two of them still bear original adhesive labels confirming their Italian production. Specifically, the labels reference a now-closed shop in Florence called "Vinattieri", leading us to believe that this piece—although unmarked—was likewise made in Italy. The item is in good vintage condition. Its solid, heavy structure is cast in brass, then chrome-plated and finally gilded. It shows minimal signs of age and use, with some light wear to the gilding on the underside. A charming and unconventional object, perfect as a Christmas gift. Originally designed in mid-19th-century London by the Bowler brothers to protect gamekeepers from low-hanging branches while on horseback, the Derby hat (or Bowler hat) later became a popular symbol of the Victorian working class in England and was ultimately elevated to an icon of fashion and entertainment by figures such as Charlie Chaplin and Laurel & Hardy.
